Serie A giants AS Roma will travel to Levante for a pre-season friendly and coach Claudio Ranieri is already talking up his side’s chances of winning major silverware next season. The former Chelsea boss will be laying his hopes on new signing Adriano and captain Francesco Totti to end the trophy drought in the capital.
Roma emerged as the main title challengers to Inter Milan for the Scudetto last season, like previous seasons before, but fell away again near the end as they failed to maintain their push in the final few weeks. However, Ranieri is confident that it will be different this time with his players convincing him during pre-season training that they will be able to lift the gloom over the city and bring hope to the fans.
“Inter cannot be reached on paper, but I am ready to bet on Adriano. After the first few weeks of work I am convinced he will return to his best,” Ranieri said.
“I hope that he becomes the biggest hit of the summer transfer window.
“Totti is looking sharp, I hope his fitness helps him as last year he had a few injuries. But he has always shown great football and he is the best Italian player.”
Ranieri was also brash about the club’s hopes of winning the Champions League for the first time.
“The Champions League? Roma have to be a ticket to visit the city. We respresent the capital and the fans should be proud of us,” Ranieri added.
