With AS Roma preparing for their pre-season friendly agianst Al Sadd, skipper Francesco Totti is looking forward to a successful Champions League campaign with his one and only club next season.
The former Italian international has never won the tournament during his career and hopes to sign off with at least one medal with the 33-year-old approaching retirement age. With the Serie A title, Coppa Italia and Italian Super Cup all sitting proudly in his trophy collection, Totti also hopes to beat Roberto Baggio’s goalscoring record in Serie A.
“I dream of the Champions League because it’s the only victory that I have not achieved,” Totti said in Il Corriere dello Sport.
“It’s more difficult than the league, but in any case we have the qualities to fight on both fronts.
“I want to reach Roberto Baggio and beat his goal record, which will be a great sense of pride for me.
“I am well, and maintaining weight and form is important for me given the problems I have had with my knee.”
The Roma captain still managed 25 goals last season in a season which was often in a stop start manner due to several injuries including a chronic knee problem.
Meanwhile, Totti also clarified his earlier comments about Inter Milan having “stolen” two Scudettos from Roma by claiming that he was misinterpreted and that he was only repeating what a monk had said to him in a private conversation.
