AC Milan could be set to hand new loan signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic his debut when they face Lecce in their Serie A season opener at the San Siro. The Rossoneri agreed to a deal with Barcelona to sign the Swedish international and the striker could help to breathe new life into a club that has clearly been on the decline in recent years.
To illustrate their growing lack of appeal and financial muscle in the transfer market, Milan have only managed to sign defender Mario Yepes from Chievo and club vice president Adriano Galliani had earlier hinted the impending arrival of Ibrahimovic.
“Ibrahimovic’s signing? I will remain in Barcelona until Tuesday (transfer window closes) if that is what is required to get his signature,” Galliani said earlier. “The player has taken 24 hours to consider his options.”
Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri will have a fully fit squad to select from against Lecce and striker Alexandre Pato is expected to feature after recovering from another injury.
“I am not 100% but I feel better,” said Pato. “I believe I will be ready for our first game of the season.
“My aim is always to help the team do well and contribute so that Milan wins everything.”
Rivals Lecce make their anticipated return to Serie A tomorrow but will have to do without injured striker Ernesto Chevanton.
Chevanton, who is returning to the club for a second spell after six years away, was the biggest name in a summer of busy recruitment in Lecce.
Chevanton is recuperating from a muscular problem while Lecce coach Luigi De Canio will also be without suspended midfielder Riccardo Oliveira.
