Cristiano Ronaldo’s dismal performances at the 2010 World Cup finals could now be attributed to the stress of becoming a father for the first time after the Real Madrid star announced on his official websites that he has just come a father of a baby boy.
The announcement was made on Saturday night on his Facebook and Twitter accounts and Ronaldo stated that his son will be under his “exclusive guardianship”.
“It is with great joy and emotion that I inform I have recently become father to a baby boy. As agreed with the baby’s mother, who prefers to have her identity kept confidential, my son will be under my exclusive guardianship,” the statement said.
“No further information will be provided on this subject and I request everyone to fully respect my right to privacy (and that of the child) at least on issues as personal as these are.”
There was no news of who the child’s mother was, although the Portugal captain has constantly been linked and seen with several women throughout his career, including celebrity socialite Paris Hilton who was only recently arrested in South Africa for marijuana possession while attending the World Cup 2010 finals.
Real Madrid and new boss Jose Mourinho may now be concerned if their Galactico star could face endless sleepless nights looking after the child, or the increased intrusions into his private life as a result could affect his displays even more in the near future.
Ronaldo was in a fit of rage after Portugal’s elimination from the World Cup at the hands of Spain. The captain of his national team was filmed spitting into a TV camera and also laid the blame of his country’s exit on coach Carlos Queiroz. The striker refused to apologise for both his actions and words after the game.
