The Euro 2012 co-hosts Poland and Ukraine will face each other in an international friendly on Saturday with the visitors calling up a few new faces and with no permanent manager in place after Myron Markevich’s resignation just days before the game.
Ukraine have decided to hand call-ups to FC Kaparty Lviv midfielder Denys Kozhanov and FC Vorskla Poltava midfielder Denys Kulakov for the two friendlies against Poland and Chile although both may have to start from the bench depending on caretaker coach Yuriy Kalitvintsev’s selection.
Kalitvintsev will temporarily take charge from Markevich until the Ukraine FA decides on a new appointment and could hand a start to Vorskla midfielder Oleg Krasnoporov. Krasnoporov’s only previous appearance for Ukraine was almost two years ago in November 2008 when the Euro 2012 co-host played Norway in a friendly but the midfielder could now be set to earn his second cap.
Meanwhile, fellow Euro 2012 co-host Poland will aim to end a run of four successive games without a win when they entertain Ukraine on Saturday. The Poles have lost their last two games and drawn the two before that, and with no competitive fixtures ahead of them before the European Championship to be held in the country, better results are needed to avoid going into the tournament finals with a sense of dread and foreboding.
