Republic of Ireland skipper Robbie Keane is preferring to focus on his international duties against Armenia on Friday and Andorra next week for the Euro 2012 qualifiers rather than what has proven to be an uncertain period in his club career at Tottenham Hotspur.
The much-travelled striker was again linked to a number of clubs during the recent summer transfer window after spending last season on loan at Celtic and failing to nail down a regular place in the Spurs team for the new Premier League season. The 30-year-old was named in a number of possible deals as a make weight and has clearly fallen out of favour with Spurs boss Harry Redknapp despite the latter’s insistence to the contrary.
Keane revealed his relief at the close of the transfer window and maintained that he would prefer to concentrate on playing regular football with both club and country from now on, rather than getting involved in continued speculation about his future.
“I think all the clubs are probably glad that the transfer window has closed and now everyone will concentrate on playing football,” Keane said.
“At least there won’t be any more speculation for a few months.
The former Liverpool and Inter Milan star is hoping to add to his 100 caps for Ireland and repeated his desire to feature in every game.
“Obviously every player wants to play in every game and I am certainly looking forward to the Armenia match and next Tuesday’s tie against Andorra in Dublin.” Keane added.
