Tottenham Hotspur are making a offer for Liverpool winger Ryan Babel as they continue to fail in their bid to bring various players to White Hart Lane in the last few days.
Spurs have been linked with Luis Fabiano, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Emmanuel Adebayor and Giuseppe Rossi over the last 48 hours but have not been able to sign any of them after the players either decided to stay with their current clubs or moved on to bigger teams.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is now hoping to bank on his wheeler dealer reputation to sign Babel on a season-long loan, but Liverpool have apparently told their Premier League rivals to return with an offer for a permanent deal.
The Reds are keen to secure additional cash for current or future transfer targets and would consider allowing the Dutch winger to leave only if Spurs can make an offer that would allow them to recoup the £11.5 million fee they paid for the former Ajax star.
Redknapp is desperate to add to his squad as the club face a testing season with campaigns in the Premier League and Champions League concurrently. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has opened the chequebook for his manager after the club qualified for the Champions League group stages but that has not helped the club secure any new additions so far, with the transfer deadline approaching fast.
Fabiano decided to reject Spurs’ overtures in signing a new contract with Sevilla, while Huntelaar opted for Schalke over White Hart Lane. Villarreal have demanded too much for Rossi in Spurs’ valuations while City have confirmed that Adebayor would not be leaving Eastlands this summer.
Babel has recently spoken of his desire to stay on at Anfield and fight for his place and had stated his optimism of proving his worth to Liverpool fans after the arrival of Roy Hodgson as the club’s new manager.
