Tottenham Hotspur are intent on building a lineup with pacy attacking flair with an eye on the Premier League title next season after reports revealed that coach Harry Redknapp is readying a bid for Aston Villa’s Ashley Young.
Redknapp is understood to want Young on his team to complete an attacking side with verve and mobility that would be the envy of other Premier League rivals.
With Young on the left, Redknapp can complete his midfield jigsaw with Lennon on the right and a central midfield that has no shortage of options with the likes of Luka Modric and Tom Huddlestone already internationals in their own right. The former West Ham and Portsmouth coach is looking to create his own team in the image of a previous Manchester United lineup known as Fergie’s Fledglings with the pace and dynamism provided by the likes of Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Lee Sharpe and David Beckham.
However, Villa coach Martin O’Neill will be loathed to let go another one of his stars as it has been a bad week for the club with James Milner the subject of interest from Manchester City, United and Chelsea. Losing Young to one of the club’s competitors for European football would be a huge blow to the Ulsterman’s and the fan’s ambitions.
Spurs are willing to sweeten the deal by offering either Robbie Keane or Jermaine Jenas plus £25 million, with O’Neill previously interested in the latter.
With funds at Villa Park in short supply, O’Neill knows that he has to sell before he can buy. Yet he is also well aware that selling both Milner and Young would leave his team stripped bare and another season of ‘rebuilding’ could be in line.
But having failed to win the Carling Cup and ending the season only in 6th place, Villa cannot offer both players Champions League football which other suitors like Spurs can, and ultimately they could be enough to convince them that their futures lie elsewhere.

Keane/Jenas plus £25m! I don’t think so. Ashley Young hasn’t had the best season and the deal would be closer to Keane + £10m I think. With Joe Cole potentially available on a free I think this is unlikely to happen.
