Spurs Boss Harry Redknapp May Offer Bentley, Keane And Jenas For Aston Villa Star Ashley Young

By Kenneth on Friday, 30th July 2010

Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp is lining up a blockbuster move for Aston Villa winger Ashley Young by offering his counterpart Martin O’Neill three major players in David Bentley, Jermaine Jenas and Robbie Keane in exchange.

Redknapp has spoken of his desire to bring in three more players to strengthen his squad in anticipation of a Premier League and Champions League challenge next season, and has renewed his interest in Young whom he had been after last summer.

Villa have already slapped a £30 million valuation on Young which has so far kept suitors away and has also been prohibitive for Spurs chairman Daniel Levy. According to The Mirror, Redknapp is now contemplating giving up three of his fringe players in order to get his man.

Even though Keane starred in Spurs’ pre-season tour in North America, the striker has never convinced Redknapp of his quality in the side, while Bentley and Jenas have long since slipped down the pecking order in a fiercely competitive Spurs midfield.

O’Neill had previously been reported to be keen on Keane, and could finally be convinced to part with one of his prized assets in exchange for three players who could contribute to a Villa squad that the Ulsterman had complained to be too thin last season as they failed once again in their bid to qualify for the Champions League by finishing in the top four.

And with Villa midfielder James Milner also subject of interest from Manchester City, the addition of Bentley and Jenas could go some way in replacing the England international’s departure if City are willing to meet the club’s valuation in the player.
