In what could be the biggest transfer shocks of the summer, Liverpool could swoop for Harry Redknapp to replace departed manager Rafael Benitez. The Anfield giants are hoping to line up the Tottenham Hotspur boss as the new manager as efforts are ongoing to rebuild the club after what has been a true summer of strife so far.
The men charged with finding a new man to takeover Benitez – Kenny Dalglish and Christian Purslow – are said to be keen on the Spurs manager after rumours surrounding Redknapp’s apparent displeasure with his club’s lack of an offer for a contract extension.
With Redknapp often professing his desire to manage a really big club, Dalglish and Purslow could now try to convince the former Portsmouth coach that Anfield would present such an opportunity that may never ever come by his path again.
It would indeed be a major coup for both Liverpool men if they can convince Redknapp to give up Champions League football with Spurs to move to a Liverpool riddled by owner mismanagement, severe debt levels and no significant funds with which to build a new team that is now without a figurehead at the helm. The Spurs boss has always maintained his happiness at White Hart Lane and it would be difficult to tempt him away from being involved with the Champions League for the first time in his coaching career.
But Redknapp could also be keen on the challenge of rebuilding a once great club that is now teetering towards collapse. The Spurs coach has always been known as a “fixer” and restoring glory to Liverpool could be his crowning achievement if he does accept any offer the club may put on the table.
Liverpool could be ready to offer a two-year, big money deal to convince Redknapp to move to Anfield but Spurs would be determined to keep hold of their manager who has done wonders at White Hart Lane since taking over.
