Manchester United will play rising starlet Javier Hernandez against his former club Chivas Guadalajara in their pre-season friendly after the striker impressed Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson with his contribution and goal during the 5-2 win over the MLS All Stars. The Mexico international will play one half each for his new club and Chivas Guadalajara as a tribute.
Hernandez signed for United earlier this summer when he moved to Old Trafford for around £7 million, with Ferguson claiming that the fee would have been tripled had the club waited till until after the World Cup finals, in which the Mexico international scored two goals and was rated the fastest player in South Africa.
The 22-year-old impressed again during the friendly earlier this week and also scored a goal while being given a rousing reception by the 70,000-strong crowd made up mostly of the large Mexican population in the United States. It was his first goal for his new club.
“The one thing defenders worry about is players with speed, who get into the space behind them,” Ferguson said.
“When you see his goal it is an indication of that speed. The timing of his run, coming towards the ball spinning, he is going to be a threat to defenders, no question.”
LA Galaxy manager Bruce Arena – who was coach of the MLS All Stars side – also had noteworthy praise for Chicharito Hernandez as he predicted a bright future for the striker.
“Manchester United has a global scouting network and they know where all the great players are.” Arena said.
“They were obviously well aware of this young prospect in Mexico and they did a fabulous job to secure him at the time they did.
“He is going to have a learning curve and [will benefit from] becoming a professional in the environment of Manchester United.
“One has to believe he is going to be an outstanding player. He certainly has a bright future.”
