Rising Anderlecht starlet Romelu Lukaku had revealed that he would prefer a move to join Spanish giants Real Madrid rather than Premier League champions Chelsea or Liverpool.
The teenage Belgium international has been under increasing speculation with a switch to Stamford Bridge with the Blues monitoring his progress for several years. The 17-year-old is dubbed the new Didier Drogba by many quarters due to his similar playing style and physical attributes to the Blues star and also previously posted pictures of himself in a Chelsea shirt on his Facebook account.
Lukaku was also linked to Liverpool after the player’s agent Christophe Henrotay revealed that he had spoken to the Reds last month about the possibility of the striker joining them.
Drogba also claimed to have spoken to Lukaku about a switch to Chelsea.
“I’ve even called him (Lukaku). I got his phone number from Vincent Kompany. I told him: ‘You have to sign for Chelsea’.” claimed Drogba.
However, the youngster has now revealed that he would prefer a move to Real Madrid if he had his way. Speaking to Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo, Lukaku replied when asked about his preference between Jose Mourinho’s side or Carlo Ancelotti’s double winning team: “If I had my way, I would go to Real Madrid.”
Lukaku topped the goalscoring charts in Belgium last season after scoring 19 goals in 45 games for Anderlecht, despite starting 12 of those matches from the bench. The youngster has already scored three goals so far this season and is increasingly becoming a regular for the Belgium national team.
