Fulham boss Roy Hodgson will turn down any offers from Liverpool and other clubs from the continent and stay at Craven Cottage for the long run, according to the club owner and chairman Mohamed Al Fayed.
Fayed believes that his in-demand manager, who attracted widespread recognition and attention after steering the unfancied London club to the final of the Europa League last season, will pay back the faith and support he has given him during his over three years in charge at Craven Cottage.
Hodgson’s achievements during his short time in charge of Fulham – first guiding them from the brink of relegation since his appointment to the heady European heights of the Europa League final last season while achieving stability in the Premier League with successive top ten finishes the past two seasons – have made him favourite to succeed the departed Rafael Benitez at Liverpool.
The Anfield club are also reportedly keen on the English manager’s services despite club legend Kenny Dalglish having thrown his hat into the ring for the coaching stewardship.
But Fayed said that he has given his manager the best support possible and hopes his efforts will be reciprocated by the former Inter Milan coach. The Fulham chairman feels that Hodgson will stay on at Craven Cottage and continue the work he has started while enjoying a successful relationship with all at the club.
“I don’t think he’ll leave me,” Al Fayed said. “I’m sure he’ll have lots of approaches from other clubs, but I give him anything he wants to reach results and we have a very good relationship.”
Hodgson is reportedly keen on Liverpool’s offer but there have been no reports as yet on the discussions that are understood to be taking place soon while the Anfield giants take their time in deciding on their best candidate.
