Fresh from helping Atletico Madrid qualify for the Europa League final, Sergio Aguero is reported to have agreed a £40 million transfer to Chelsea this summer, reported ESPNSoccernet. The move will come on the back of constant rumours this season and could spark a major transfer spree at the Stamford Bridge club.
It was revealed via a Premier League manager that the Aguero transfer was already common knowledge amongst the club and negotiations were already reaching their final stages. It now appears likely that the transfer will be sealed and announced once the season ends.
“The word is that Aguero is going to Chelsea – it’s a done deal at £40 million,” the source was reported to have said.
The Argentinian striker has been a constant target for the Blues and was reported to be close to a move in the January transfer window. However, Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti had sworn that no major signings would be made then and in order to keep his word and faith in his present squad, the transfer was then postponed till the summer.
The player was also said to fancy a move to London and quotes were attributed to him that his wife and family were keen on the move to the capital. Atletico Madrid have also pushed for the deal to be completed as their financial situation meant that funds were needed urgently through sales of their biggest asset.
More hints were made that the Chelsea move was the most certain with Aguero heaping praise on future team mates Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba. It was also a clear political move as both players have indicated in the past that they ruled the club from the players’ dressing room.
“Chelsea are a great club,” Aguero said then. “They have become one of the most feared in Europe over recent years. London would be a really amazing city to live in as well – myself and my wife could be really happy there.”
