Milan have been monitoring the situation at Anfield for several months and Torres is said to have expressed a desire to make the switch to the Rossoneri in the summer. The club has been alerted to his opinions and they are hoping to launch a bid for the Spain striker when the season ends.
However, the reports are likely to be nothing more than hearsay or an attempt to unsettle the player or even create fan interest in Italy. Torres has just recently pledged his future to Liverpool and the English Premier League club’s managing director Christian Purslow also assured the player of the club’s ability to invest on new players in the summer.
Torres is also a player who may be ambitious but never ready to jump ship quickly. Furthermore, AC Milan would hardly be the ideal place for a player hoping to fill his trophy cabinet as the club has largely failed to impress this season despite being in the running for the Serie A title – largely due to the faltering form of leaders Inter Milan. There is also instability at the club with manager Leonardo’s job nowhere near secure.
AC Milan could also not afford Wolfsburg’s asking price of €40 million for striker Edin Dzeko and with Serie A clubs struggling financially, the Rossoneri would not be able to afford a striker costing as much as Fernando Torres.
