Southampton will continue their season without a new manager named in place of the sacked Alan Pardew when they welcome Rochdale to the St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday in the npower League One clash. Caretaker boss Dean Wilkins suffered a blow before the game after the club confirmed that Adam Lallana will not be available for up to six weeks as the player prepares to undergo knee surgery.
That would allow Brazilian Guly do Prado to retain his place in the starting lineup while Saints will also miss the suspended Lee Barnard after the player was sent off in the club’s midweek Johnstone’s Paint Trophy defeat to Swindon.
Lee Holmes (groin) is back in training alongside Frazer Richardson (shoulder), but both are some way off from a return to action.
Rochdale will welcome back midfielder Jason Kennedy after the player served his one match suspension for last week’s red card when the club beat Brentford in their midweek Johnstone’s Paint Trophy fixture. Rochdale boss Keith Hill will also have winger Joe Thompson available again after illness while there are no further injury or suspension concerns for the manager.
