Championship leaders Queens Park Rangers seek to extend their lead at the top of the standings with a home clash against Watford on Friday but manager Neil Warnock has warned star Adel Taarabt not to overindulge in the party tricks.

The Moroccan playmaker has been a revelation for the Hoops this season but Warnock needed no reminding that Taarabt was ineffective in his side’s last televised game against Bristol City when the player chose to impress viewers – and failed – rather than focus on the team.

“I just hope Adel doesn’t have another of those games in front of the cameras,” Warnock said. “He realises how poor he was that night and I think he’ll be a bit more responsible. I’ve already had a word with him about it and he accepts he didn’t play well. I think he’s a better player for us now – more of a team player, which he’s learnt to be over the weeks.”

QPR – like many other teams – had the weekend off last week due to hazardous weather throughout the UK and the time off has given several of his players more time to recovery with only Akos Buzsaky and Lee out at the moment.

“I don’t really like Friday night games because I’m a Saturday afternoon man and love my Saturday afternoons,” Warnock added. “I’m not a massive fan of the Premier League, playing Sunday lunchtime, Sunday afternoon, Sunday tea-time, Monday night.

“But any night of the week doesn’t really bother me at the moment because I’m enjoying watching us play. It’s been a long two weeks [without a match] and I can’t wait for the game to come. I just hope it hasn’t knocked us out of the routine.”

Warnock holds no great store by the fact Watford will potentially add some local derby spice to proceedings.

“I’m a big fan of [their boss] Malky Mckay. I like what he does and the way he goes about his job and I think it will be a tough game, but then they all are,” said the Rangers chief. “You can’t tell me there’s one game that’s not tough.”
