Leicester City have announced that they have signed Japanese star Yuki Abe from Urawa Red Diamonds.
The deal was earlier reported by Breaking Football News but the issue of a work permit left the Abe move hanging in the balance. However, the situation has now been resolved as the club announced the transfer on their official website.
Abe was a star with the Japan national team during the 2010 World Cup finals as he played a pivotal role in helping the Blue Samurais qualify for the second round before a heartbreaking exit on penalties. The former Urawa Red Diamonds player started in all four of Japan’s games in South Africa and will be a useful addition to Leicester boss Paulo Sousa’s squad as he tries to guide the Championship team to promotion to the Premier League.
The experienced midfielder has 49 caps with Japan and the 28-year-old has won the Asia Champions League with his former J League club.
