Leeds United boss Simon Grayson believes that the “healthy discussion” his side had after Tuesday’s 5-2 defeat at Barnsley will help to sort out their problems ahead of their clash with Doncaster Rovers on Friday night.
Grayson spent Wednesday morning with the squad reviewing the mistakes made at Oakwell and admitted that both sides had a fair exchange of views during the discussion.
“We had the lads in on Wednesday, had a chat and looked at the DVD,” Grayson told the club’s official website.
“We had a healthy and open discussion. I’d had my say on Tuesday after the game don’t worry about that, but you need to know that the players understand what went wrong and why things went wrong, and I have no problem with them having their say.
“It’s all about putting right a wrong, and all of us analysed the game.”
Grayson admitted that he spent a sleepless night after the game but believes he has identified what had gone wrong – his players were simply trying too hard to get back into the match.
“For 43 minutes we were comfortable,” Grayson added. “We weren’t playing as well as we could by any stretch, but we were 1-0 up and fairly comfortable.
“Having watched it again, you have to say from there, all five goals came from our mistakes. They were mistakes which could have been eradicated.
“We lost our shape and our organisation. I don’t think we gave up, but the problem was we were trying too hard to get back into it and that’s where the mistakes started to come from.
“That’s why it was important for us all to look at it together and throw things at them.
“As soon as we came out of the meeting it was put to bed. You can’t dismiss it totally because it has to be at the back of their minds on Friday, but that should only be there as added motivation and to make sure we don’t make the same mistakes again.”
