Cardiff City’s loan signing of Craig Bellamy from Manchester City is under the spotlight again after Feyenoord lodged a complaint with FIFA regarding a previous transfer with the Championship club involving Glenn Loovens.

Feyenoord claim that they have not been paid the £350,000 sell-on transfer fee for Glenn Loovens agreed with Cardiff, after the player was subsequently sold to Celtic in 2008 following a switch to the Bluebirds in 2006.

The Dutch giants are unhappy that Cardiff have continued to sign players despite not having paid them the fee and have made an official complaint to FIFA, who are now pursuing the case through the Wales FA.

Bellamy is reportedly on £85,000 a week with the Bluebirds, although City have agreed to pay £64,000 of that amount, with Cardiff paying only the outstanding balance. The deal led to outrage amongst Championship clubs who felt the loan signing led to Cardiff enjoying an unfair advantage.

The Welsh striker’s arrival also pushed Motherwell to reveal that Cardiff still owed them £175,000 for Paul Quinn and questioned how the Championship club could afford to sign more players despite not having money to pay outstanding debt.

While the Motherwell dispute has been resolved, Cardiff have insisted that the new owners are still paying off bills incurred by the previous owners.

A spokesman said: “We have agreement on a payment plan with Feyenoord and we are working to pay off our historical debts.”
