PSV Eindhoven manager Fred Rutten could not conceal his delight with his team’s 10-0 thrashing of traditional rivals Feyenood on Sunday in the Dutch Eredivisie.
Feyenoord had a player sent off in the first half but managed to keep PSV at bay until half-time, when the league leaders were only leading by two goals. The floodgates eventually broke open after the break as PSV piled on the pressure and never stopped searching for more goals as they put an additional eight past their opponents in an incredible scoreline for a top-flight football match.
“I am proud, especially because of the way we played in the second half,” Rutten said after the game. “Against ten men, we were very disciplined and kept a high tempo.
“When you keep possession so well, spaces will automatically appear. In the past we sat back a bit when we were in the lead, but today there was an enormous drive to register a big win.”
With Ajax drawing earlier in the day, PSV now find themselves well clear at the top of the Eredivisie, with 24 points from the first 10 games as they stay unbeaten.
