Ajax Amsterdam will face MVV Maastricht in the Dutch Cup third round with manager Martin Jol choosing to take into consideration the criticism former Ajax legend Johan Cryuff had of his team over the weekend. The former Spurs coach expressed humbly that Cryuff’s criticism should be taken in the right light, but that he would also continue to focus on the club’s immediate priorities ahead.
“With Ajax, we are used to it (the criticism). It happens more often,” Jol said. “The criticism of such an expert should always be taken seriously. We are doing that. We take the informing. But now we just go back to the order of the day.”
And that order of the day would be the cup fixture against MVV. Jol could be tempted into making changes to his lineup with forthcoming clashes against FC Twente and AC Milan in the Champions League but the manager insisted that any changes would be few: “Some players find enjoyable, but you also have players who just want to play everything. We will team certainly less rigorously change as Arsenal in the Carling Cup does.”
There could be starts for both Demy de Zeeuw and Urby Emanuelson with Jol insisting that the chances of that happening were high. However, definitely missing would be captain Luis Suarez, who is suspended following his sending off in the final last season against Feyenoord.
Gregory van der Wiel would like to play Wednesday against MVV: “I am a player who likes to play every game. So even against MVV. For each game, I load the same way. This Wednesday will be no different.”
