Wolfsburg playmaker Diego – signed from Juventus during the summer – has compared the Bundesliga to the Serie A favourably and claimed that the German league is a better one than Italy and that the German game leads the way internationally.
“I think the Bundesliga is much more balanced than the Serie A,” Diego told the club’s official website. “On their day, any team can beat any other. As for the infrastructure, stadiums and fans, the Bundesliga leads the way. All in all, the Bundesliga is currently far superior to Serie A.”
Diego also had high praise for fellow team mate and top Bosnian hitman Edin Dzeko, who has continued to score prolifically in the Bundesliga despite wanting to leave for greener fields.
“I’m sure that in due course, he will be one of the three, four or five best strikers in Europe.” added Diego.
Meanwhile, Wolfsburg boss Steve McClaren will not have goalkeeper Diego Benaglio available for Bayer Leverkusen vs Wolfsburg on Saturday as the former England manager will have to make a difficult decision on who to replace his first choice.
The highly rated goalkeeper picked up a muscular problem during Switzerland’s 4-1 Euro 2012 qualifying win against Wales on Tuesday and underwent further examination the next day to clarify the extent of the injury.
It’s not yet known exactly how long the Swiss international will be unavailable due to the knock, but Wolfsburg have confirmed on their website that Benaglio won’t be match fit in time for the match against Leverkusen.
The absence of Benaglio means that McClaren will have to make a pick between Marwin Hitz and Andre Lenz for the vacant position of shot stopper on Saturday.
