Werder Bremen striker Claudio Pizarro is hoping to make his comeback against Freiburg after spending a long time on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury. The Peru international is likely to be involved in some capacity on Saturday but may be eased back into the game.
“The muscle feels good, but I need to take it slowly,” Pizarro told the club’s official website. “It will still not be good enough for 90 minutes on Saturday.”
Bremen are struggling somewhat without Pizarro leading the line, with just eight points from seven games. Pizarro has scored 58 goals over the last two seasons to remain a firm fan favourite.
The ongoing feud between Werder Bremen players Aaron Hunt and Tim Wiese shows no signs of slowing down as it spills into a second day. The Bremen keeper hit out that the team deeply missed Mesut Oezil, with the implicit criticism that Hunt had been an inadequate replacement.
“We are missing Oezil in every way. He did not only score important goals for the team but he also set many up,” Wiese remarked.
Hunt was evidently unhappy with those comments and hit back prior to the Freiburg vs Werder Bremen match.
“Tim has shown little thought in his statement but we know that we have come to expect that from him.”
Now Wiese has again responded to Hunt, who incidentally has the backing of club manager Klaus Allofs.
“I don’t care what Aaron says. If I have an opinion, I will continue to hold it,” Wiese is reported to have retorted.
Die Gruen-Weissen have struggled this season and are below even Bayern in 13th spot with eight points from their seven matches. They host Freiburg this weekend in a north versus south clash.
