“That is not necessarily a logical result,” Munich coach Louis van Gaal said. “We can lose there, but I have faith in my team and we have won two games without our injured players so we can do so again.

Bayern continue to grapple with a long injury list that includes Daniel van Buyten, Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, Mark van Bommel and Miroslav Klose. Striker Ivica Olic should return to the squad after a recent facial injury but the Croatian is unlikely to displace Mario Gomez who starred over the past two games with four goals.
Hamburg coach Armin Veh also has good news on the injury front with Mladen Petric returning to training this week and making himself a candidate for a place in the team.
And Veh insists he is going to need every man on board for tomorrow’s big test.
“Bayern are the biggest club in German football and they have earned this reputation over the years,” he said. “Even though they have plenty of players out, they can still put together a streak of eight wins in a row. But we want to win. We need to win to keep up there and cement our position.”
