North Queensland Fury will travel to AAMI Park to face Melbourne Park in their A League clash on Saturday with the pre-season favourites hoping to build on a list of players returning from injuries. Fury were expected to challenge for the A League title due to the signings of John Aloisi, Simon Colosimo and Michael Beauchamp but injuries and other issues have hampered their progress.
However, defender Eric Akoto will be available for the fixture with Heart while Brad McDonald, Jack Hingert, Colosimo and Beauchamp have all made the preliminary squad for the game and all could feature at one point or another as Fury look to catch up on the ground they might have lost even at this early stage of the season.
“I’ve been playing in the A-League since it first started and without doubt, this is the most even season to-date. Although only early days, all teams have the ability to beat each other on any given day and this is reflected in the compact table. The quality of players and coaches in the A-League has continually improved, which I believe has led to a more attractive brand of football being played by all teams.” Fury captain Talay told the club’s official website.
“We were disappointed with our performance last Saturday against Adelaide United but credit to the lads, we kept fighting to the very end and could have even come away with a point. We know where we went wrong and everyone has worked extremely hard at training this week and we look forward to getting back out on the park to put things right.
“Melbourne Heart have one of the most experienced line-ups in the League but we are confident in our ability and in our plans, so if we execute these as best we can, then I see no reason why we can’t get a result.”
