Japan will host Paraguay at the Yokohama Stadium in an international friendly that will also bring the two World Cup rivals together again after playing each other in South Africa just over a month ago. Japan had drawn Paraguay in the 2010 World Cup finals second round but were knocked out on penalties after a stalemate over 120 minutes of pulsating football.
While Japan now have a new coach in Alberto Zaccheroni – the former Juventus and AC Milan manager having just been appointed earlier in the week, the team’s technical director will be in charge of the game before Zaccheroni presumably takes over for the Blue Samurai’s next friendly against Guatemala.
Japan will miss the services of Wolfsburg midfielder Makoto Hasebe who withdrew from the squad after suffering a foot injury and failing to recover in time.
“If I can’t play my 100 percent it causes trouble for other players. I was disappointed that I missed the chance to impress our new coach (Alberto Zaccheroni),” Hasebe said.
Paraguay coach Gerardo Martino has also announced the starting line to take on Japan, with Marcos Caceres and Nestor Camacho the new faces in the Guarani squad.
Racing Club defender Caceres will come in at right back for the Albirroja, while 22-year-old Rubio Nu star Camacho will make his debut out wide in midfield. Elsewhere Manchester City forward Roque Santa Cruz gets the nod to start up front, where he will partner Dortmund’s Lucas Barrios.
