Japan will welcome Guatemala to their next internatinoal friendly after recording another impressive result last week. The Blue Samurais managed to beat Paraguay 1-0 in a repeat of the World Cup finals clash between the two countries where the South Americans eliminated the Asian football kingpins on penalties.
There are likely to be few changes to the Japan lineup to face Guatemala although with new manager Alberto Zaccheroni watching, several of the players will be doing their best to impress the former AC Milan and Juventus coach.
There were more withdrawals from the Japan squad prior to the game though due to club commitments and various injuries. Daisuke Matsui has pulled out to return to Russia after FC Tom Tomsk – where the player is currently on loan – requested that he returned in time for their crucial clash against Zenit St Petersburg.
The Blue Samurais will also have to do without Yasuhito Endo, Yasuyuki Konno and Yuzi Kurihara which will further weaken the team who are already doing withot Makoto Hasebe, and World Cup hero Marcus Tulio Tanaka.
Japan chose not to call up replacements for the fresh withdrawals, preferring to hand opportunities to the remaining players in the squad to stake their claim for a place for future games. There might be more appearances in the pipeline for the likes of Hajime Hosogai, Jungo Fujimoto and Takashi Inui as the Blue Samurais build a new generation.
